Baby Grace is now 15 months old. In February of 2008 one of Life of Hope’s short term mission teams “de-bugged” Grace’s future home and then purchased a new bed for her arrival. The rest of her story is that her father had been shot and killed a few months before and her mother was not skilled enough to work or care for her family let alone the new baby.
In just a few weeks it become evident that Grace’s health was not good and it appeared that she was not receiving proper nutrition. When I visited Guatemala in March of 2009 I found out that Grace was now spending about 90% of her time with Monica. Her mother had agreed to this arrangement because she knew her limitations. Grace is now thriving!! Just look at how the women of Monica’s house have trained her to use the phone! Abuse and critical situations occur each week in the ghetto of La Limonada. Tita (the ministry director) and her staff work hard to meet the needs of the children and families. They have now received two children (Grace and Nathan) into their home for full time care. They ministry feels that God may be asking them to expand their efforts and establish a “rescue home”. They would bring children into this home to escape dangerous and abusive environments. Some of the children might even stay longer term.
This “rescue home” will only be possible as God leads these faithful servants and provides the resources necessary. There is no question about the need for this new aspect of ministry. If you, or a group you are involved in, would be interested in additional information about the efforts to “rescue the street children” please contact Life of Hope Ministries today. |
