I feel humbled and blessed that God allows me to work with such amazing partners in Guatemala. They have taught me that every day we are given the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those around us. In fact, they teach me more about God’s love that sometimes I feel like I ever give to them.

As a child, I remember missionaries visiting our church and I proclaimed “I would never be a missionary!” God’s plan is always best in our lives! I am grateful that God has prepared me throughout my journey for where I am today and pray that I might glorify God in serving in Guatemala in all we do.
Adriana Polanco
Field Assistant
Adriana Polanco lives in Guatemala City and began her career as a fill-in translator and God quickly revealed to the staff of Life of Hope her value not only as a translator for our short-term mission groups but also for her skills in relationships and assisting our efforts. Adriana is our go-to assistant on the ground in Guatemala and helps in organizing our short-term mission trips, the child sponsorship program and is our lead translator for each of our visits.
In April of 2014 Adriana married David Suazo, who has also worked as a translator for Life of Hope and is currently employed at SETECA teaching in music.
I’m involved with Life of Hope because I get to see Jesus while serving Him and loving people-I get to see His face! And really, what else is there to life than the shining, loving face of our Savior? It’s a privilege that He even considered me worthy to be part of His kingdom! I like seeing kids smile when they understand how the Bible is alive and relevant to their lives and circumstances.
Sofia Majus
Field Assistant
Sofia Majus lives in Guatemala City and Life of Hope Ministries was introduced to her through our ministry partner, Vidas Plenas, and Tita Evertsz. Sofy was working alongside of Tita in the La Limonada community as a teacher and then completed her university education as a psychologist. As Life of Hope continued to grow and expand with our ministry partners, it became evident that another staff person in-country was necessary. God placed Sofy on our hearts as we had seen her love, compassion and skills in working with the children in Limonada. In discussing this possible move with Tita and then Sofy, God made it clear that this was the right decision. Sofy will work with Adriana on the ground in Guatemala helping in organizing our short-term mission trips, the child sponsorship program and will help translate for each of our visits.
Sofy´s quote: “When I got invited to join Life of Hope, I was speechless. God always has a way of surprising us in unexpected ways. Having served Him in the Limonada community for more than 12 years my heart has always rejoiced in getting to walk with Christ, and joining Him in what He is already doing, redeeming people, extending them His grace, especially in Guatemala’s violated, most vulnerable communities. I wake up every day thankful for the opportunity God gave me to be His hands and feet here on earth, which is a calling He has given to us all.”
“Serving in marginal areas has given me the opportunity to know and identify myself with the children and their families. Once again, I have decided to obey God´s calling to my life of serving others. Being part of Life of Hope allows me to continue getting to know other communities while also being part of an intercultural mission-oriented organization, never taking for granted the love that God has put in their hearts for our country, something that only God can do.”
